Twenty Five Twenty One Season 1 sypnosis
From AsianWiki, Na Hee-Do is a member of her high school fencing team. Due to the South Korean financial crisis, the high school fencing team gets disbanded. Getting through all the difficulties, she becomes a member of the sabre fencing national team.
The South Korean financial crisis also causes Back Yi-Jin’s father’s business to go bankrupt. This leads to a life change for Back Yi-Jin, from living the life of a wealthy person to a poor person. While studying, he works part-time jobs like delivery newspapers. Later, he becomes a sports reporter for a broadcasting network.

The episode starts with the present day people entering a convention center under the ‘new normal’ covid protocols. Her mother Na Hee-Do drops off her daughter Min-Chae for ballet competition and looks forward to her performance through watching it in a mobile phone inside her car. Unfortunately, Min-Chae gives up before her performance right after seeing Choi Yun-Seo’s and runs away. Despite her mother being supportive of her to just even try, she says she quits and dumps her ballet dress and shoes into the garbage outside the venue.
Min-Chae running away ends her up at her grandmother’s place, staying in her mom’s old room where numerous fencing medals and several personal items were kept. She sees her mom’s diary and reads it up.
A flashback to 1998 when a young Hee-Do is off to school for Saturday class looking forward to see “that kid.” After school, she hurries off to a place and stumbles upon protesters about IMF financial crisis about protecting Korea’s film industry. The young Hee-Do care freely walks through her way through the protest thinking that this IMF has nothing to do with her.
At Tae Yang High School, Hee-Do sneaks into a fencing training room just to see Go Yoo-Rim, a seventeen year old girl who won the championship and dreams to become her rival. Unfortunately, her dreams are cut off short as her fencing team got disbanded due to IMF financial crisis. A desperate Hee-Do seeks any opportunity to make her school transfer her to Tae Yang High School to continue fencing under Yoo-Rim’s coach.
One of her attempts to get transferred is talking and getting her mother’s support. Unfortunately, their conversations heats up and Baek Yi-Jin, a new paperboy in town, overhears their loud conversation in the street. An upset Hee-Do throws her anger at Yi-Jin when the newspaper he threw broke the peeing boy statue.
Another attempts Hee-Do did was to get into an assault situation and gang fights. But things did not go with her plan as the person she tries to assault with says she should take care of her body being an athlete and the cop witnesses how she protected a girl from being bullied by a guy.
Her last attempt was to get into a bar as a minor. However, this lead her into a private room with Yi-Jin and his friends. He was not comfortable seeing her but he attempts to get her out of the situation as one of his friends try to make her drink liquour. Yi-Jin and his friend breaks out into a fight and later on walks out with Hee-Do.
Yi-Jin talks the sense into Hee-Do about what bad could have happened to her, but she reasons out that she is just desperate after losing her dreams because of “the time.” This is the first time they also exchanged names.
The next morning, another heated argument between Hee-Do and her mother arises leading her comic book Full House getting ripped of. Hee-Do tries to put back the book she rented where Yi-Jin works at. Things has been bad for them both after her father passed away, which could explain the cold and depression demeanor of her mother.
Hee-Do shows up to see Coach Yang and manages to pass the first test by swiping an apple in her sword in mid-air. But fails the second test to guess odds and evens. However, her tenacity and Coach Yang’s skills are enough for her to allow Hee-Do to study at Tae Yang High School.
It turns out that her mother actually showed up earlier and asker Coach Yang for a chance to teach Hee-Do, showing that her mother has a heart too and can see how important is this for her daughter.
Hee-Do manages to go to her Tae Yang High School and gives credit to Yi-jin for helping her achieve this. But he already passed by their house and dropped off the paper. Still, Yi-Jin happens to overhear all of this from behind the hedges, smiling warmly and issuing a congratulations to her.
