The winter break ended quickly after hero internship was over. And in just three months away, their first year at UA High school will come to an end.

Class 1-A briefly share their improvements over Hero Internship

Iida and Yaoyorozu greet everyone at Class 1-A a happy new year, tells that today’s lesson will be about internship reports and then instructs everyone to go to Ground Alpha. Just as when Aizawa opens the door and asks until when does Iida plans to stop talking, Ashido and Asui greet him a happy new year on their way out. Iida then tells Aizawa he had already conveyed the main agenda of the day to the class.

Kirishima, also on his way out of the classroom, opens up the topic that Iida sure have made out the most of his winter break. Iida tells him that he had his internship with Manual, the leader of Hosu City, has learned how to be more flexible and proudly demonstrated his super fast-moving hips to no one since everyone has already left the room.

While getting changed into their hero costumes, the girls get to see Ochaco’s new costume with a heavy, new wrist/crate. While the boys get to hear about Midoriya being able to control his new quirk and naming it “blackwhip.” He gets a comical non-stop bleeding from being hit by metallic neck brace thrown by Bakugo by getting on his nerves.

At Groud Alpha, All Might is completely ignored by Class 1-A as he was reciting his punchline out loud over and over again while mixing a cotton candy (emphasizing the almost similar sound of “it’s fine now, I’m here” and “it’s fine now, my cotton candy” in Japanese.) He also tells them that Aizawa has some urgent matters to attend to.

The Truth about Kurogiri’s body

Back when Aizawa is standing at Class 1-A door, Nezu asks for him to come to the staff office as soon as possible through an announcement. In the next scene, he and Yamada are driving off to a place. Aizawa asks if Yamada can drive any faster while Yamada’s response to him was shut up and calm down. Aizawa looks at Yamada and at a glance, he completely understands his friend’s uneasiness.

Tsukauchi ushers them to the investigation room and is joined by Gran Torino, waiting by the door. He recalls that a Nomu is created by modifying a dead human body that can hold several quirks at once. A mindless puppet, added by Gran Torino, as they hoped it should have been that way. A serious toned Aizawa tells Gran Torino that they left their classes and came in a hurry, therefore make his statement brief. Yamada puts his shaking hand on Aizawa’s shoulder and tells him to calm down.

Tsukauchi and Gran Torino explains that man they are about to meet is the core of the League of Villains and is usually chatty, but when the information is working against the villain, he goes completely silent as if his brain just shuts off. Knowing if they could only get something out of him would be a huge progress, they delicately investigated more about Kurogiri. They now found out that Kurogiri’s quirk factor that was used as the base of multiple quirk is similar to Aizawa and Yamada’s friend back in U.A. High – Oboro Shirakumo, who died at a young age, confirming that Kurogiri is a nomu using Oboro Shirakumo’s corpse as it’s base.

Aizawa, Yamada and Shirakumo’s days at U.A. High

Back in the days, People used to call Aizawa, Shirakumo and Hizashi as “Three Dummies of Class A.” They became good friends and Shirakumo urged Aizawa and Yamada to open up their own agency after they graduate. But not long after, Shirakumo died when the building collapsed during their hero internship.

On several flashbacks, Aizawa recalls his first meeting with Shirakumo, who introduced himself to him but the stubborn Aizawa tries to distance himself. On a lunch break, Shirakumo extends his hand to grab his arm as they run towards the cafeteria before it is jam packed. And finally, Shirakumo gives his goggles to him so he can close in on his opponent while keeping his eyes safe. This makes Aizawa and Shirakumo use the same goggles.

Aizawa and Yamada talks to Oboro Shirakumo

Gran Torino convinces Aizawa and Yamada to talk or reawaken Shirakumo’s residual soul inside Kurogiri’s nomu body, basing on facts that Nomu retains the personality of the base deceased person. When Aizawa and Yamada sit down to face Kurogiri at Tartarus visiting room, Yamada laughs out the idea that they can talk with Shirakumo like an old friend, while Aizawa asks Tsukauchi about the Oboro family. Tsukauchi says they will try to let the Oboro family speak to Kurogiri if they fail to get any information. Clearly against it, Aizawa uses his quirk “Erasure” on Kurogiri and tells Tsukauchi how can they let the Oboro family know that their son has turned into a nomu.

Kurogiri, who has been sedated by the investigating team, has just woken up and is surprised to see Aizawa. Seeing that the black mist on Kurogiri’s face did not go away even if Aizawa is using his Erasure on him, Yamada could not get his head around the matter that Shirakumo’s body has been altered into this nomu and bluntly says that Tsukauchi and the team could have made a mistake. While Yamada is still talking, Kurogiri asks about how Tomura Shirigaki is doing.

Aizawa asks Kurogiri if he cares about Shirigaki. Kurogiri tells him yes, that it is his duty to look after him. He continues on saying it is his nature to never ignore the needs of others. Hearing this from Kurogiri himself, Aizawa is almost put into tears by recognizing his friend Shirakumo’s personality in Kurogiri’s answer.

Aizawa then tells a story in the past that he left a stray cat behind without giving it much thought but Shirakumo took the cat home without any hesitation. Yamada remains silent. Kurogiri is clueless of what Aizawa is talking about. Aizawa continues on saying Shirakumo was the person who pulled him along, an optimistic person and always moving forward. But the dead has no future.

Being a teacher at U.A. High, Aizawa tells him he was strict with his students about the definition of dying – that selfless sacrifice is different from giving up one’s life in order not to repeat Shirakumo’s mistake. This resulted to Aizawa having high expulsion rate in his classes. Believing that his students should not throw away their lives in the name of justice but have Shirakumo’s virtue.

While telling his convictions, Aizawa removes the goggles from his head and grasps it in between his hands tightly as tears streams down his face. He then stands up, holds out the goggles toward Kurogiri and calls Shirakumo’s name saying let them strive to become heroes once more. Despite the attempt to reawaken Shirakumo’s soul, Aizawa completely knows that they will not be able to bring back his dead friend.

Brain anomalies starts reflecting on the machine monitoring Kurogiri, indicating he is having doubts. Quickly, Tsukauchi suggests Aizawa and Yamada to ask him about the location of Nomu factory and Shirigaki’s whereabouts. Aizawa raves to Shirakumo to tell them who messed with his brain and if he felt anything when they first met back during the U.S.J. attack. Kurogiri answers in a distorted voice that he has no idea what he is raving about but the mist around the head is starting to warp and brain anomalies indicating high movements. Aizawa and Yamada continues raving that he is a student of U.A. High Class 2-A and their hero dreams together.

In that intense attempt, a sudden calm of brain waves and a stable Kurogiri sits in front of them making them realize it was a futile attempt. Then an instant outburst of distortion happened on Kurogiri face, revealing Shirakumo’s face behind Kurogiri’s mist. A conscious Shirakumo sees Yamada and Aizawa, recognizes them and tells them one word… “hospital” before completely shutting down.
