The Daily Life of the Immortal King (Chinese: 仙王的日常生活, Pinyin: Xian Wang de Richang Shenghuo) is a donghua or Chinese animation based on the same name of a Chinese novel by Kuxuan. The novel is published by Qidian of China Literature in Chinese and Webnovel in English. It began daily serialization in 2017. As of 30 June 2021, the novel has 1880 chapters, 1176 chapters of which have been translated into English. It also has a manhua or Chinese comic. Also, there’s no episode description from Netflix unlike some TV series. It has 15 episodes. Each episode ranges from 17 to 20 minutes.

The story starts as we zoom out of an airplane that looks like a giant sword that has magic encircling it to fly through the sky. The narrator says it is now the year 4386 on the Cultivation Calendar. It is a great era of scientific cultivation. Scene moves over to the market where people are selling anti-aging agents, spiritual amulets & magic wares & a cultivator is seen using a flying sword as a mode of transportation. Cultivators sword fighting in competitions & doing meditations for cultivation. People all over Huaxiu are practicing cultivation & enjoying the convenience brought by the cultivation technology. People using their magic equipment or spirit energy to use the subway.
It was peaceful & prosperful until a gigantic frog came & destroyed a part of the city. Amidst the chaos where everyone else runs away, a boy walks indifferently to go to a convenience store. While a news report of a Level 5 Giant Frog has descended in Songhai, Magic Squad has been sent to the scene. All 5 members attacked using flying swords against the Giant Frog resulting in a big explosion. Despite the bombardment, the Giant Frog survived & attacked a female squad member. As the members spread out, a male member notices the little boy & warns him to run, but the boy is occupied in trying to eat his snack bought from the store. The Giant Frog was aiming at the member as he tried to warn the boy again, then suddenly, the frog jumped. The member grabbed the boy as he was gonna eat his snack just as the Giant Frog landed. After saving the boy, he went charging against the Giant Frog.
Suddenly, the scene shifts to a statue. The man who defeated the Giant Frog, all on his own, is called Zhuo Yi. He earned his name in that battle & was known by the later generation as the hero who saved Huaxiu. Many cultivation factions have erected his statue.

Today is the first day of the new school year for Faction 60. We see the little boy has grown up into a teenager after all this time. He is now being bullied by seniors because his force value is 5 (considered weak) to get protection money from him. Then suddenly, someone attacked the 2 bully seniors sending them flying in the air before landing back to the ground. Sun Rong, a rich daughter of the Flower Fruit Water Curtain Group, was the one who sent the attack. After saying, she’ll give the guy sufficient protection. Funnily, the male teenager who was bullied earlier just gave Sun Rong money. Thus, shocking her & just stood petrified over what just happened. The crowd was also puzzled too.
There will be a very important test that will decide which class they will be in. It is the Spiritual Force Test. Welcoming the level 1 freshmen is a hologram of Zhuo Yi. Zhuo Yi welcomes them to his alma mater & informs them that newcomers will have a mysterious test on their spiritual force. The result of the test will decide which class you will go to. Those with excellent scores will be in Class Elite. Zhuo Yi says good luck to all the students.
Student number 1 is Ku Xuan. Some people commented that he looks like the author of an animation & has seen him in a magazine cover. The target for the spiritual force test is Giant Frog, the demon king that intruded on the human world 10 years ago. A teacher reassures the students that the real Giant Frog is sealed under the campus. The frog avatar is just the incarnation of its spiritual force. All a student has to do is to summon all his force to hit the head of the Giant Frog. A freshmen commented that a high-level demon king can clearly sense the force value of its attacker. Ku Xuan mentions he’ll destroy the frog because he’s the original author of this animation. He hit the frog but was blown back. The teacher notes down his spiritual force of 404 & decides he’s in Class Ordinary. Sun Rong comments even if it is sealed, the demon king should have a force value above 5 digits. Attacking with a freshman’s spiritual force is like hitting a bowling ball with a table tennis ball, so he was bound to bounce back. Student number 2, Li Hao is next & his spiritual force is 75, Class Ordinary. The teacher seems a bit disappointed with the batch of freshmen as last year’s batch were valued from 700 to 800.
Chen Chao has a force value of 938, Class Elite. Guo Hao has a force value of 886, Class Elite. And many students got tested. Giant Frog has a hidden purpose for getting beat up for all the 10 years he has been sealed. Every year, he was always used as a target for the test. So, he always absorbs some spiritual force from the young people. Someone commented that Sun Rong could have gone to one of the best schools & questions why this school she chose then. Giant Frog only needs a little more force to break the seal. Wang Zukang is the teacher’s name who’s supervising the test. Sun Rong hits the frog that the frog was pushed back unlike the others’ test. Sun Rong has a force value of 2019. The male teenager is Wang Ling. Everyone comments he’s weak. In his mind, Wang Ling is aiming to get a value of 400 to get into Class Ordinary. Giant Frog notices Wang Ling & his background music.
Scene flashbacks to what really happened. Zhuo Yi was charging toward Giant Frog, only to end up being swatted by the frog. Giant Frog approaches Zhuo Yi to give the finishing blow on him to get his spiritual force & even notice Little Wang Ling approaching him. He thinks a side dish has come, but little Wang Ling hit him so hard with his spiritual force that Giant Frog was knock back down on his back. It seems little Wang Ling approached due to his snack being there. He even says he hates being bothered while he’s eating crispy noodles.
Wang Ling contains his power to the minimum & decides to pretend to his best. But Giant Frog feels threatened thinking he’ll use full force on him & if he’s hit, his soul & spirit will be gone. There was a sudden explosion & the test shows a lot of number 9. Giant Frog is on his back again, looking defeated. Wang Ling is sure that he didn’t even got to hit the frog. It seems the Giant Frog was killed by Wang Ling. Sun Rong mentions that every time the frog is hit, there is a protective membrane effect. But there wasn’t one this time. Wang Ling uses magic in his right eye & spots Giant Frog’s soul & thinks it is playing dead. The remaining spiritual force changed into a spiritual body & got away. Mr. Wang says to Wang Ling that he’s going to Class Elite, to which Wang Ling was surprised.
Shifting to the Class Elite classroom, we are introduced to another teacher, Pan Shengcong, who is their main instructor. Today’s lesson is the first summoning lesson of this class. Ms. Pan asks if anyone has any experience, none from the students. Ms. Pan continues on saying that the space around us is filled with spiritual bodies. What we need to do is create a passage in that space. Your spiritual force level determines the size of the passage you create. The common ways of summoning are drawing spiritual figures or reading incantations. By drawing a spiritual figure & infusing it with spiritual force, you can summon a spiritual beast. The strength of the spiritual body you summon is in proportion to your force level. The art of basic summoning consists of a spiritual figure, summon & incantation.
Chen Chao did an exaggeration of his summoning but only ended up summoning a magic girl wand, earning the laughter of his fellow classmates. Guo Hao tries next but ends up summoning a girl’s skirt, earning a slap from a female seatmate in front of him, calling him scoundrel. Guo Hao struggles to explain. And so, every student tried summoning but some summoned items ranging from a box, female action figure & ssr card. Sun Rong seems a bit successful with her summoning, but it seems to be the spiritual body of a stray dog, not a spiritual beast. Sun Rong humbles herself saying she can’t summon something that strong, but on the inside, she is frustrated on how much spiritual force it’ll take to summon a spiritual beast. Every student has tried summoning except for Wang Ling. Wang Ling couldn’t help but do a summoning under the teacher’s prompt. As he starts to do a summoning, he knows that there are so many alien beings in the space around. He just doesn’t know what will come out, knowing it’ll be a very strong spiritual beast. Wang Ling ends up summoning a small version of Giant Frog. Some classmates ran off upon seeing who was summoned & Giant Frog is shocked that it is Wang Ling again. Ms. Pan went into action. She used a magic seal & Sun Rong’s spiritual body of the dog. After throwing magic towards Giant Frog, what resulted is Giant Frog is sealed into the appearance of a dog yet with the frog’s colors. All the classmates came back & became fascinated with the dog. They decided to raise it & named it Froggy Two. Wang Ling then leaves the classroom as Ms. Pan looks on & then at Froggy Two. Froggy Two couldn’t take the petting from the students & barked like a dog.
My Opinion of The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 1 Episode 1
Well, I already saw the trailer of this donghua, but I didn’t know the name then. And I just recently discovered that it’s on Netflix. And I already know who truly defeated the Giant Frog demon king. I really was wondering how a giant frog became a dog, but it was due to the teacher combining the giant frog & a skeletal dog.
In The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 1 Episode 1, I figured that Wang Ling may be a reincarnated one as it’s possible for cultivators to get reincarnated due to some circumstances or conditions. When the Giant Frog appeared & chaos was everywhere, Wang Ling as a little boy just casually went to a convenience store to buy his snack. Any normal kid would run or cry upon noticing such chaos, but Wang Ling acts indifferently even as he punched the giant frog like he was just a small fry. Thus hinting, he may have a previous life due to his unexpected apathetic mind & his wanting to live a low-key life. Also, Wang Ling seems to know that whatever spiritual beast he summoned will be powerful as legendary beasts. Thus, a really small version of Giant Frog was summoned. So much for the giant frog trying to escape. He ended up as a summoned beast. Also, I think it’s fate that they were bound together. Giant Frog breaks the 4th wall by mentioning about Wang Ling’s background music. Hm, why did the Giant Frog invade Huaxiu? If it weren’t for Wang Ling, Huaxiu might have been destroyed as the Magic Squad had a difficult time defeating it. Also, with Wang Ling’s indifferent attitude, does he even remember Giant Frog whom he defeated?
First time I see a character, Zhuo Yi, that has his hair encircling over his eye like a monocle. Wonder when will people know that he wasn’t the true hero that defeated the Giant Frog. Will he one day confess the truth especially since the true hero is one of the new students at his alma mater?
I feel there’s too much comedy, so this TV series will appeal to those who love comedy. I look forward to their cultivator battles. There was a big battle with Giant Frog. At the end of the episode, the song scene shows the promise of amazing cultivator battle scenes to come.

Also, it seems the author, Ku Xuan, makes a cameo appearance as student number 1. Inver expect some people & Ku Xuan are breaking the 4th wall. There’s another cameo character, Li Hao, the student number 2. I think Li Hao is based on the director of the animation, Li Haoling. I just noticed that Li Hao’s Chinese characters are the same as Li Haoling’s Chinese characters. Like Ku Xuan, the 2 people seem out of place among the freshmen as they look more adult than teenagers.
Some character names were mentioned as I deem some of them important. I think the main cast consists of Wang Ling, Giant Frog or Froggy Two (dog form), Sun Rong, Chen Chao & Guo Hao, as I’ve seen them in the poster of Netflix & they were all fighting in the song scene.
Summoning lessons really made me remember the summoning techniques from Naruto. Similar concepts yet different. Cultivators used spiritual energy, whereas ninjas used blood, then both apply it on spiritual figure to do summoning.
