The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 1 Episode 2

The episode starts inside a hospital. Something happened in the operating room. Smoke billows out as the nurse opens the door to the operating room. Mr. Wang asked regarding his baby. The nurse hasn’t finished speaking. Mr. Wang assumes it’s bad news & starts crying. In trying to calm him down, the nurse finally said that the baby crawled out by himself. Coming out of the operating room amidst the smoke, the baby walked towards the nurse & Mr. Wang. The baby stopped in front of his dad & even scratched his butt. Mr. Wang couldn’t believe what he was seeing & he fainted out of shock.

Mr. Wang or now Wang Ling’s dad woke up his baby son, Wang Ling, to show a magic weapon bought for him by his parents. It’s a limited edition Dragon-Slaughtering Sword, said to be worth a half year savings. As the parents talked about the weapon, the narrator mentions that Baby Wang Ling as a chosen one had to tolerate unimaginable torments at a very small age. Baby Wang Ling can hear what people think, so he has to face the pretense of the world much sooner.

Inside the dad’s mind, he always wanted to buy the weapon & now has an excuse to have it. While inside the mom’s mind, she figured that he wants the weapon for himself & sees it as a waste to buy. So, she actually searched for 3 days & nights just to find the perfect counterfeit in order to save the money. Baby Wang Ling is now facing his first philosophy problem. If he didn’t take the sword, this kind of harassment from his parents would never stop. If he did, this counterfeit or even a real Dragon-Slaughtering Sword wouldn’t be able to stand the spiritual force at his fingertips. If the sword breaks, they can buy another one. If the marriage breaks up, Baby Wang Ling will feel troubled. Using Thought Acceleration, Baby Wang Ling considered different ways to react to this problem. Suddenly, Baby Wang Ling peed himself & thus averted his crisis. Baby Wang Ling figured out the first philosophy of his life that it is better to keep a low profile. He was levitating & spinning his toys in the air, then when mom comes, he shifts to biting his toy tiger.

But at the age of 6, Wang Ling failed to confine his force. What Wang Ling did was way beyond their cognition as they’re weak cultivators having never graduated from the body-building phase. The couple reached a unified conclusion that they had never done before, a unanimous vote for the principle of keeping a low profile in life. Wang Ling’s dad was in charge of finding a way on the web to contain spiritual forces & managed to implement it before Wang Ling went to primary school. They used an amulet & put it at the back of his neck to suppress his spiritual force. It seems that the effect of the counterfeit force-containing amulet is not steady as shown that his bowl cracked from a leak of his spiritual force. So, he also must take a golden pill daily as a supplement. Even his utensils for eating are special: a black & gold bowl that he cracked a bit earlier & a pair of steel chopsticks. While his parents use ordinary bowls & chopsticks for dining. Wang Ling’s dad reassures his son that he’s working on a new version of the amulet & it’ll be ready within the year. Wang Ling’s mom doubts it as the dad has been saying it every day over the past decade. But Wang Ling’s dad is sure about it as most of it is finished.

Wang Ling’s mom recounted what happened when Wang Ling was younger. On his 7th birthday, Wang Ling blew out his birthday candles; but instead of blowing out the fire, the fire spread & almost burnt down their house. When he was 10, while playing with his friends, his friends touched Wang Ling’s back near his amulet & there was a reaction which took their clothes off. Wang Ling’s mom just wants him to live an ordinary life. Over the past 10 years, Wang Ling has sensed his parents’ trouble & effort. This is something Wang Ling found out for the first time in 10 years. So he decided not to do anything impressive before the new amulet is finished.

As Wang Ling enters school, we see Chen Chao & Sun Rong trying to get votes for class president. Wang Ling ignores their campaign. Upon seeing the dry noodles are on sale, Wang Ling rushes into the crowded campus shop. But a man in a suit bought all the goods in the shop. The man in suit announces that it’s all free for freshmen; all freshmen were excited. But then it was said if they support or vote for Sung Rong; all freshmen got dismayed & the crowd was dispersed. Then, Chen Chao & Guo Hao came to complain that they’re soliciting votes. Sun Rong suddenly appears. They kept arguing about the solicited votes. Then, Wang Ling says that he’ll give Sun Rong 5 votes for 5 packs of dry noodles. Wang Ling couldn’t hold himself anymore due to his favorite snack, but Sun Rong misunderstands thinking that he helped her out. Due to what Wang Ling did, Sun Rong made a speech & managed to convince some students to get some goods & vote for her. The man in suit or Sun Rong’s head bodyguard notices that Sun Rong will be using a tactic. Sun Rong recites, “Not giving the tiniest part of me to benefit the world.” Then she snaps her fingers & a spell spreads out thru the campus. The art of seduction is used. It is all part of Sung Rong’s plan. Using small benefits such as free goods & having all the freshmen present, she captured everyone with the spell including the most difficult one, Chen Hao. Every student has the Chinese character of Sun over their heads. It’s also thanks to Wang Ling’s help. Upon remembering him, Sun Rong searches for Wang Ling. Her head bodyguard answered Wang Ling left & was asked to give a golden pill to Sun Rong. Wang felt that with 1 vote for 5 packs of dry noodles, he owed Sun Rong a favor. So, he gave her a golden pill that his mom forced on him to make it even.

Teacher Wang suddenly switches the lessons & talks about The Ancient Arts of Confinement. The so-called seduction is to use incantations with hand seals with hand seals to project your spiritual force on other people so that your spiritual force turns them into your fans. Sun Rong thinks that the teacher notices what she did to the other students. The lecture continues. Studies in ancient books show this little wise guy was good at a mind game, which is called “taking advantage of seduction on other people.” Thousands of years ago, there was an immortal who called himself “Little Wise Guy.” He had 3,000 followers. The spell was passed down from him. When the spell works, a predetermined sign will affect other people’s minds. But the one precondition for this spell is giving gifts. When this precondition is met & the incantation, “Not giving the tiniest part of me to benefit the world” is read, a spiritual force field is created. Everyone in this field who has taken the free gifts will relax their mind guard. The spiritual force in the field takes advantage of this to go in & leaves a sign of the spiritual force on the subjects. The subjects know nothing about the process. The imposer, however, can use this sign to affect their minds.

While Wang Ling is suddenly aware of why Sun Rong did those things at the shop. Luckily, he returned Sun Rong’s favor. Thus, he was the only one unaffected by the spell. Then, Guo Hao asks if there’s a way to break the spell. Teacher Wang replies that men of great power can directly break or remove the sign with their power; he says this while looking at Wang Ling. Wang Ling knew that Sun Rong was still trying to use the spell on him. Then, he thought maybe the bodyguard didn’t give her the pill. Sun Rong becomes aware that Wang Ling was staring at her. Then, Wang Ling gestures to her. But Sun Rong mistakenly thought that the pill is of high power & misunderstands that Wang Ling wants to help boost her spiritual power to become class president. What Wang Ling meant was that the dry noodles she gave tasted good & thanked her. Wang Ling was shocked that she ate the golden pill. A flashback shows Wang Ling’s mom mentions to Wang Ling’s dad about how the low-power pills are special pills that reduce one’s spiritual forces. Sun Rong loses hold of the spell. Teacher Wang says that the lack of spiritual force will end the seduction before it works. Sun Rong collapses on her desk & Wang Ling face-palms himself. Teacher Wang wants a student to do a demonstration. Sun Rong was called but slipped due to a can of drink on the floor. Wang Ling catches her. Teacher Wang suddenly decides that Wang Ling will do the demonstration. Wang Ling recites the incantation & the spell was casted. After that, Teacher Wang calls on the candidates, Sun Rong & Chen Chao to have the election for class president.

Chen Chao won and became class president. To cheat the world rather than be cheated by the world. Sun Rong is paying for what she did. Teacher Wang notices that Wang Ling mastering the incantation after hearing it only once is no ordinary feat. Teacher Wang was reporting to Zhuo Yi. At her house, Sun Rong is annoyed about Wang Ling. Suddenly, a Chinese character of Wang is seen above her head. Not knowing she’s under the spell of seduction, she complains that she can’t drive Wang Ling out of her mind. At his house, Wang Ling suddenly sneezes.

Notes for The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 2

I used the term Thought Acceleration as it fits that Baby Wang Ling was thinking at a rate of 387 times a second to think of different ways to solve a problem.

As there are 2 Mr. Wangs in the story, I’m gonna refer to the dad, Mr. Wang, as Wang Ling’s dad. The other person is a teacher, Mr. Wang; I’ll refer to him as Teacher Wang. I’ll also call the teachers like this from now on.

Interesting Fact about The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 2

Due to Sun Rong talking about Wang Ling, Wang Ling sneezed. In east Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, South Korea & Japan, there’s a superstition that if you sneeze, someone is talking about you. In Japan, this belief is still depicted in present-day manga and anime.

Opinion for The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 2

It was really unbelievable that Baby Wang Ling walked out of the operating room & also scratched his bum like an old man. Most reincarnated babies can’t even do much as they were just reborn, but I think it was possible for Baby Wang Ling due to his control over his spiritual force to make himself walk towards his dad. Due to that incident, the dad thinks his baby son is a genius, thus buying him a magic weapon with mom’s help. It was unexpected that Baby Wang Ling can read his parents’ minds, thus solidifying my guess that he’s a reincarnated one. Baby Wang Ling was so cute even with his indifferent attitude & so filial that he even sought an option where it wouldn’t result in his parents fighting or breaking his dad’s heart if he accidentally destroys the counterfeit weapon due to his spiritual force. I just didn’t expect him to pee to save his. Even with his apathetic attitude as a baby, he still cares for his family. It seems the Wang couple suffered alot as there were some incidents as Wang Ling grew up.

Even after seeing their son single-handedly defeat the Giant Frog, instead of claiming fame, they all uniformly decide to live a low-key life. Upon thinking about it, they may be scared that the government may take their son away as he’s like a rare genius cultivator born once out of a millennium. Also, it seems unusual to be born to parents of a weak cultivation phase & the son is overpowerful. In the novel, he was thought of as a fake son but a DNA test proves that he is their biological son. Maybe the parents see that his power may harm the world so they contain it. We’ll know more as we watch the next episodes. Seeing that a suppressing amulet & pills were used, it does explain how he got his force value of 5 in record before that spiritual force test. But even if they suppress their son’s power for some time, it is bound to come out & at one point, I think the suppressants won’t work anymore.

It’s nice that we, viewers, also get to learn about cultivator techniques & spells. Last episode was a summoning technique. This episode talks about the art of seduction. It even explained how Sun Rong captivated every freshman with the spell & a way to break it. Teacher Wang knows that every student in class is affected except for Wang Ling. I think he guesses that Wang Ling uses his great power to break the spell, but it was due to Wang Ling luckily returning the favor with a gift. He even thinks that the gestures he made to Sun Rong were a technique to break the spell. Teacher Wang really thinks highly of Wang Ling. I guess Sun Rong wasn’t sure that she’d win the class presidency despite her popularity, so she resorted to using the seduction spell. Though, I do find it odd that their campaigning for class presidency involves all freshmen when it’s just the students of Class Elite who’ll vote. Sun Rong got karma for manipulating the voters & ended up under Wang Ling’s spell unexpectedly.
