Hudson & Rex Season 1 Episode 3 – Haunted by the Past

At night, a ghost hunter with his gadgets arrives at a cemetery. While he’s recording himself, he says this cemetery is behind St. Julian’s church & was recommended by Malcolm 98. His gadgets are reacting. Then, he found an unconscious female.

Female victim was strangled. Truong says that paramedics were able to resuscitate her in time. Victim’s name is Nancy Rubick, 26 years old. Rex found the victim’s phone in a nearby shrub.

The ghost hunter’s name is Tyler Holme, a self-proclaimed paranormal researcher. A fan just suggested the cemetery & they were supposed to meet. His user ID was Malcolm 98. Seeing Rex, Tyler comments that dogs can sense the supernatural. Then, Hudson sees a priest & goes over to talk to him. The priest, Father Xavier, lives across the road.

Donovan was having a call with Camilla. Rex approaches Donovan. Donovan pats Rex. Nancy Rubick survives strangulation & is in a coma. As Hudson mentions the last name, Rubick, Donovan suddenly remembers that there’s another Rubick case. An 11-year old Malcolm went missing. With no body found, the case went cold. Donovan says what are the chances that Nancy & Malcolm are related. Looks like they’ll have to look into it. Donovan will search about the old Rubick case. Hudson & Rex head off to the hospital where Nancy was.

At the hospital, Rex stays outside of the room as Hudson goes in. Truong was already in the room beside a comatose Nancy, gathering any evidence that may help the case. Truong found broken fingernails indicating Nancy fought back. She may be able to get some DNA of the attacker & help identify him.

As they look through the old Rubick case, Nancy was the younger sister of the missing Malcolm Rubick. Hudson asks Mills to unlock Nancy’s phone. Then, Hudson talks with Donovan. Donovan is scared that his daughter may take after her mom. Donovan seems to have a problem with his daughter as she’s hiding something. Donovan fears that maybe she’s hiding drugs. Hudson jokes about having Rex sniff around, but Donovan took it seriously, even giving out his house keys to Hudson to check his house. Then, Mill came to inform them that he unlocked the phone. Hudson wonders why so fast. Mills explains he unlocked the phone by using birthdate as it’s most commonly used. As they look through Nancy’s phone, Nancy is Malcolm 98 & sent a text to Tyler before she was strangled.

Hudson, Mills & Rex went to see Tyler. Tyler didn’t know who Nancy was. He thought she was a dude due to her user ID being a masculine name. The cemetery was their supposed first meeting. They went inside Tyler’s place. He has an amazing computer system that’s hack proof. Mills says analysis can be done here as it’s better. Hudson allows it & Mills stays behind.

Back at SJPD, Donovan found something for Hudson. Hudson comments Donovan could have delegated someone to do the work as he’s the boss. But Donovan seems motivated, so he handled it. Donovan shows Hudson some pictures. One picture shows the house of Floyd  Walker, the math teacher who privately tutored Malcolm. He was a suspect in Malcolm’s case.

Next picture shows the house where the Rubicks used to live. The house was sold a year ago. Nancy bought the house & moved back to her childhood home. Hudson decides to check out Nancy’s home.

Hudson & Rex just arrived near Nancy’s home. Rex hears something. It’s from a passing van. Hudson notices the noise & says it must hurt Rex’s ears. The van’s driver came out. Hudson talks with the van driver. The van driver is Ben Tripper & he knew about the Rubick family. Ben says the mom moved away & the dad drinks himself to death.

Hudson & Rex goes inside Nancy’s house. Truong was already there. They went to a room that shows Nancy has been investigating her brother’s case. There’s a picture of a route that passes through the cemetery, a picture of Tyler for the meetup & a flyer of Rita Collins, a psychic.  Nancy was searching for her brother but doesn’t expect to find him alive. Hudson finds an email that says stay away or there’ll be consequences. The email was from Floyd Walker.

Hudson & Rex visit Walker. As Walker sees Hudson from his doorway, he shouts & wants Hudson to go away knowing he’s a cop. Walker has had enough of the police. Just because he is gay, he was considered a possible pedophile. Just as people were just forgetting what happened, Nancy shows up to Walker’s house regarding Malcolm. Hudson asked what the threatening email was about. What Walker meant was legal actions such as a restraining order.

As Hudson was getting ready to drive away, Donovan calls to remind Hudson to have Rex check Donovan’s house.

Hudson & Rex were just leaving Donovan’s house as they finished inspecting the house. They encounter Camilla. Hudson makes up an excuse that he’s here to get Donovan’s work that he left at home. Camilla notices & asks where’s her dad’s work as Hudson has nothing in his hands. Hudson makes up another excuse that he already left it in his car & that he went back to use the toilet. Going with his excuse, he suggests not using the toilet for the time being.

Back at SJPD, Hudson informs Donovan that Camilla is not hiding drugs. But Donovan still insists that she’s hiding something. She even left her phone behind. Like what 16-year old leaves their phone at home. Donovan begs Hudson to tail her. They go back to talking about the cases. Walker was suspected because 3 years ago in his previous workplace, he was fired for inappropriate misconduct. Hudson decides to visit Rita Collins, the psychic as Nancy had been visiting her

Hudson arrives at Rita Collins’ place. Seeing Rex, Rita mentions that dogs can sense the supernatural. Hudson says he’s been told about that. During a seance, Rita had a psychic flash of a cemetery behind St. Julian’s church. Nancy visited Rita as she had been having dreams about Malcolm. Rita suggested that Nancy wrote her dreams down in journals. Rita found a journal & gave it to Hudson. Hudson leaves a number to Rita to call if she found more of Nancy’s dream journals.

Hudson was at his home. As Hudson reads the journal, he sees newspaper articles about the missing Malcolm. Hudson suddenly turns around & sees 2 Rexs. As he turns back, Little Malcolm scares him. Hudson wakes up; it was a nightmare.

Hudson decides to go to the cemetery. Rex senses someone & chases him. It was Tyler. Tyler wanted to help out. Then, Rex found something among the tiles. Hudson mention that Rex was a trained cadaver dog. Seeing as there’s no tombstone, they dug it out. They found skeletal remains.

Truong is amazed that Rex was able to find the remains amidst the cemetery. Hudson humbly says Rex was able to find it as the other corpses in the cemetery were buried deeply & had coffins. The remains weren’t buried deeply & was partially exposed that why Rex smelled it. Not verified yet, but Truong thinks it’s most likely Malcolm’s remains.

Ben was among the crowd & went to Hudson to ask about the case. Truong wants to talk with Hudson. It was just an excuse asTruong senses that Hudson didn’t want to talk with Ben. Then, Hudson mentions how Rita, the psychic, had a vision of the cemetery & the dream journals.

They spot Father Xavier talking with someone in a car, then the car drives away.

Father Xavier knew the Rubick family as they were a part of the community. But then, Malcolm went missing. Father Xavier mentions that Walker came to ask for forgiveness back then. Father Xavier confronted & pleaded with Walker to admit his wrong.

Hudson went to Walker’s house. Walker is seen trying to leave. Walker says he’s just going to his sister’s place to stay for a while. Walker complains that he was the only suspect in Malcolm’s case. Hudson asked what Walker was confessing.Walker wasn’t confessing to a crime but was asking for forgiveness. Back then, Malcolm asked for a ride home, but Walker refused & didn’t have a reason to. Not long after Malcolm left, it rained hard. Walker felt guilty for what happened. Hudson asks Walker to make a statement regarding what he said earlier & insist things will be different this time around.

Then, Rita calls Hudson that someone broke into her house. Hudson arrives & finds Rita on the ground with a concussion. Rita woke up. Rex found some dirt outside. Seeing the dirt, Hudson figures that whoever broke in was at the cemetery earlier.

Truong accompanies Hudson in tailing Camilla & having a staking out. Camilla meets with a hooded person. Hudson was about to head out thinking there’s a shady deal. Truong stops him & asks to wait a bit. The hooded person is a girl. Both figured out what was going on. Camilla was seeing the girl. They were about to go, but Rex barks. So, Camilla spots them. Hudson apologizes & don’t want to be involve in her outing as a lesbian. Camilla says her dad knows. She explains that she promised her dad to not be serious with anyone before finishing high school. Hudson asks Camilla to talk with her dad as he’s worried. Hudson apologizes to Truong for dragging her into this. But Truong says it’s fine as it was amusing for her.

Hudson & Rex goes to Tyler’s place. Rex responds to a sound. Mills was trying to found something in a recording. Tyler thought Rex hears ghost chatter, but Hudson responds that Rex can hear better than humans & can hear something humans can’t. They managed to pinpoint a hidden sound & focus on it. Hudson & Rex remember the sound. It’s the sound heard from Ben’s van.

After spotting Ben’s van, Hudson went inside the house as Ben is probably inside. There was a struggle. Hudson lost hold of his gun. Ben gets the gun & holds Hudson at gunpoint. Hudson subtly signals Rex to stay down. Hudson tricks Ben into confessing what happened. It was raining hard that day at the cemetery; Ben didn’t mean to hit Malcolm. He was also intoxicated that time. As he was doing some landscape at the cemetery, he buried Malcolm there. Ben complains that everyone has moved on. Hudson says that he won’t be charged for what happened then, but he’ll be charged with attempted murder. As Ben was going to shoot Hudson, Rex attacked Ben.

Ben was arrested. The police car drove off. Hudson does his usual hand gesture, it means give me some love & Rex hugs him.

Back at SJPD, Hudson mentions to Donovan that Nancy knows too many details of what happened but she was too young at that time. It seems Nancy receives psychic visions from her brother.

Donovan mentions Camilla will have a heart-to-heart talk. And there’s someone she wants to introduce to her dad. Hudson sticks to not saying anything as he promised Camilla earlier. Nancy woke up & got discharged. Truong was accompanying her & asked Nancy to tell Hudson something. While in coma, Malcolm came to her that he’s been found & it’s thanks to Hudson & Rex. Nancy decides on a funeral after all these years. Truong suggests she, Hudson & Rex will go. Hudson mentions the whole police will attend.

Hudson and Rex Season 1 Episode 3: Notes

None 🙂

Hudson and Rex Season 1 Episode 3: Opinion

I feel bad for Rex as he sits outside the hospital room. There’s a table with a plate of donuts beside him. Hudson ordered Rex to stay put. Rex makes a pitiful sound as Hudson goes into the room. A police officer guarding the room comforts Rex saying he knows the feeling, wanting to eat but can’t due to duty. It was a bit of an amusing scene.

I also feel bad for Floyd Walker. He was falsely accused for so long, about 2 decades. With no evidence concluding what happened, he was probably stigmatized as guilty but was actually innocent. He probably had a hard time finding work during that time. The only thing he was guilty of was that he refused to give Malcolm a ride home; he didn’t know something bad would happen that day. As he was gay, he also faced some discrimination. Let’s not judged someone until proven guilty. Let’s not be discriminative.

I’m mad at Ben. He’s so selfish saying that everyone has moved on, but Nancy hasn’t moved on. He indirectly destroyed the Rubick family. He indirectly caused the dad’s death.

Nancy only wants closure by trying to find his brother’s remains. A lot of people go missing. As long as there’s no body found, some have hope in finding them. To those who were found dead, it’ll give the family closure by giving them a proper burial.

I just discovered that Hudson’s usual hand gesture with Rex means to give him some love & thus, Rex hugs him. Or maybe I didn’t hear it well during the past 2 episodes.

I did hear some psychics’ help were used to solve some cases. Police need some actual evidence to solve the crime or case. So, some psychic just need to point out the weapon or item related to the case as having visions doesn’t count as witness testimony.
