Hey guys! Here is an episode recap for Hospital Playlist Season 2 Episode 8 where the story revolves around the group of friends since high school as they embark on hospital adventures involving medicine, music, and relationships.

Hospital Playlist Season 2

The story starts with a tired Jun-wan coming home to a sad Jeong-Won. Each asked the other what happened but they both say it’s nothing and shares a gulp of beer. Jun-wan leaves him alone for the evening. Jeong-won tries to reach Gyeo-Ul over the phone but is left unanswered. In the next scene, Rosa is seen going to bed with red-rimmed eyes from crying due to worry over her increasing forgetfulness. A notebook with written door code and birthdays of her five children is placed beside her bed, fearing that when tomorrow comes she might actually forget them.

U-ju does a “magic” trick

Ik-jun, Ik-sun and U-ju are eating breakfast at their house. Ik-sun reaches for a boiled egg and says she is trying to build muscles through working out. Ik-jun reminds her to take things easy and eating too much eggs can make her fart non-stop. Ik-sun tells him that anything about her fart is top secret, bewildering and making U-ju turn his head towards her while eating a mouthful of food.

U-ju then calls his father’s attention and does a magic trick by “swallowing” one hardboiled egg, trying to hide it with his small right hand while putting it in front of his left eyeball and hitting the back of head as an untouched hardboiled egg “pops” out of his eye. A giggling Ik-sun immediately tells that the shuttle bus should already be here and ushers him to the door, leaving a comically stunned Ik-sun.

Min-Ha’s talks about her patient-related superstition belief

Hong-do and two nurses come back from a break and distribute ice cream to the rest of the night shift group. Min-ha gives her hunch that tonight will be a quiet night – no emergency or patient calls and this prompts Hong-do to ask her if she has any patient-related superstition. She does not have any except for one that has been passed down for generations – “if you eat anything that your junior brought, the hospital will be rammed with patients that night. They will literally fall from the sky.” Mrs. Han avoids eye-contact with Min-ha as she cheerfully tells her superstition, making Min-ha with a fading smile asks Hong-do if he did bought the ice cream with his own money. Hong-do says yes. Just about when Hong-do tries to recall his bank account number so Min-ha can return the money he spent, the nurse station telephone rings with an urgent patient transfer request from Malgeum OB-GYN clinic. The transfer patient will be handled by Seok-yeong who is still at his clinic for out-patient appointments.

Min-Ha learns a lesson to not assume situations

The transferred patient arrives at the emergency room and is attended by Min-ha. Seok-hyeong, after finishing his last out-patient appointment, goes to the operating room to take over the surgery. After the surgery, Seok-hyeong, accompanied by Min-ha, is walking while bringing the news about the patient’s condition to the husband who is waiting outside. Min-ha tells him that she was relieved that they did not remove her uterus, because if they did, she would not know how to face the husband assuming he might be upset if that happened. Seok-hyeong stops in his track and faces Min-ha, telling her that the husband will be understanding if removing his wife’s uterus is the only option they had. Besides, the husband would have known which would be their priority – saving his wife’s life or saving her uterus. Min-ha apologies to Seok-yeong for this assumption.

A worried husband and wife’s mother greet them outside. Seok-hyeong discloses that the surgery went well and his wife will be kept in the ICU for the night. He continues on saying there has been a uterus rupture that caused heavy bleeding and a drop in BP during surgery therefore they considered removing her uterus, which thankfully did not happen as they were able to manage it. The husband is agreeing and says he would not care if they have to remove her uterus to save her life. He just wants his wife to be healthy. On their way back, Seok-hyeong says she does not have to criticize herself too much about what had happened but remember not repeat the same mistake again. He gives her an advice that it is a good experience to learn to think from the patient’s love ones perspective first.

Back in the dormitory, an upset Min-ha talks out her frustrations to her teddy bear, calmly saying to not do the same mistake again. And then in a furious tone saying she is immature and will never improve. Lastly, in a caring tone saying she still have one more chance. A fellow resident comes inside the dormitory, wondering if there are other people in the room because she heard at least three different voices arguing with each other. Min-ha tells her fellow that she is really tired, just hearing things and need to go to sleep. Min-ha sighs and embraces her teddy bear as she almost got caught in the act.

Jeong Rosa finds out about her illness

Rosa finds herself at Yulje hospital bed after Jong Su rushes in to fetch her at Yangpyeong when he found out she fell off her bed last night, getting a scratch on her head and hurting her arm. Jeong-won worriedly runs off to check on her as soon as he got the news from Jong Su. Song-hwa arrives at her ward and asks Jeong-won to talk privately about her mother’s condition. She says Rosa has hydrocephalus and it could be the cause of her legs giving out last night or her recent forgetfulness, as confirmed by Jeong-won. He blames and calls himself a worthless son for not knowing about her mother’s condition even if he is a doctor who visits her every weekends. Song-hwa tries to cheer him up saying that it is normal to blame forgetfulness with old age.

Prepared for the worst news that it could be Alzheimer’s, Rosa says she wants to hear the truth from her doctor, Song-hwa and not from her son. Song-hwa tells her about the suspected illness and the high chance of recovering completely from hydrocephalus and it’s symptoms. Rosa feels relieved and tearfully rejoices that it is a hydrocephalus, not Alzheimer’s. It was only at this moment that Jeong-won hears from her mom that she fears it was an Alzheimer’s, breaking his heart more of what he does not know about her mother. But Rosa says she is willingly undergo any surgery to get better again.

She undergoes a successful first treatment and Jeong-won keeps her company while recovering.

Song-Hwa Learns About Her Mother’s Sickness

After Rosa’s drainage surgery, Song-Hwa gets a phone call from her mother who is also at the hospital for her appointment. Unfortunately, Song-Hwa says she has another surgery to attend therefore could not accompany her mother. Her mother says she completely understands and asks if Song-Hwa would like to have dinner together but Song-Hwa tells her she needs to hang-up now, that everything would be fine and says her goodbye.

Song-Hwa receives a phone call from her mother’s doctor telling her if she had noticed anything strange about her mother recently. The doctor says she noticed mild symptoms of resting tremor and bradykinesia the first time she saw Song-Hwa’s mother. And after PET scans, it has been confirmed that her mother has a Parkinson’s Disease.

Back in her office, she rings her mother telling it is still in the early stage while holding back the tears. She also tells her that she will be coming over to sleep at home tonight. Her mother replies that she should just focus on work and apologizes that she made Song-Hwa worry, knowing that she is always very busy. Hearing this from her mother, Song-Hwa’s tears streams down from her face and tells her mother for the first time – she is not busy and work is not important right now.

Song-Hwa talking to her mother over the phone

Ik-Jun visits Song-Hwa after her phone call, saw her red eyes and asks what happened. Song-Hwa tells her that her mother has Parkinson’s Disease. He initiates if he could give her a ride home which she gratefully accepts.
