Ik-Sun tells her brother Ik-Jun about her relationship with Jun-Wan
The story starts with flashbacks of Ik-Sun and Ik-Jun talking on the phone, a continuation of their conversation when episode 4 ended. In those flashback, Ik-Sun finally tells her brother Ik-Jun about her relationship with his friend. She apologies for not telling him and states that she had broken up with him, and it is just one of the common reasons. She also mentions that Jun-Wan does not know about her illness and she wants to stay it that way. This leaves Ik-Jun absorbing everything that had just been revealed.

Ik-Jun treats a cancer patient with bile issues
Ik-Jun returns to Yulje hospital. While doing his rounds, he visits a cancer patient who is experiencing severe jaundice. Ik-Jun suggests MRI and biliary drainage procedure as it seems the cancer has spread to the bile duct and causing a blockage. The husband seemed to be reluctant but agrees.
The next morning, the husband wants an insurance claim and requests Ik-Jun to say that he does not know if the patient will get better or not. The patient is recovering and this request made Ik-Jun uncomfortable about the husband’s true intention. Ik-Jun visits her patient again and notices a bruise on her head. He requests for a sudden liver ultrasound. The husband wants to go with her and Ik-Jun questions why would he want to come. He then asks him bluntly if he does not trust him as a doctor at all. The husband laydowns and affirms that he trusts him.
During the consultation, Ik-Jun asks the patient if she needs any form of help, as he is suspecting a domestic abuse. However, she seems to be afraid and tells him that she is okay. He calls for security guards in the area in case his assumptions is true.
Rosa gives Young-Hye an advice
Rosa and Young-Hye talks over a cup of coffee which Seok-Hyeong bought for them at the Yulje’s Angel-in-Us coffee shop. Young-Hye opens up that Seok-hyeong has changed a lot since his father’s affair, Ji-Eun collapsing and her collapsing from brain hemorrhage. She is happy but her “last wish” would be Seok-Hyeong getting remarried. Rosa tells her not to meddle with her son’s life anymore and the conversation went on about how unfortunate was his first marriage. Young-Hye defensively argues that they had been lied into getting Seok-Hyeong marry his first wife, which was in fact in huge debt but her family put an act as if they are rich. And how her diamond went missing and she could be the culprit. Surprisingly, Shin-Hye, Seok-Hyeong’s ex-wife, appears in front of her while getting coffee. Their eyes meet and it stunned Young-Hye as what could she be up to.
Min-Ha’s “one question a day” for Seok-Hyeong
Min-Ha asks Seok-Hyeong for permission if a patient’s father could record the birth of his son. Seok-Hyeong allows it, only during the birth, not the labor as it could make the mother uncomfortable. Min-Ha plugs in if they could have a cup of coffee for her “question of the day.” While on their way, Min-Ha asks what kind of movies Seok-Hyeong likes to watch. Seok-Hyeong recalls that she already asked a question (when she asked him out for coffee) but Min-Ha insists that it was a work-related question. Seok-Hyeong tells her that starting today she will only be allowed to ask a work-related question which left Min-Ha drop her jaw, as this rule sabotages her intention get to know more of each other romantically, if possible. However, Seok-Hyeong recalls the rule as Min-Ha promises to ask the question for the next day.
Song-Hwa announces something “important”
Song-Hwa calls everyone in the middle of the day to announce something important – that she ordered ten wholesale snow crab which they will eat before the band practice. While eating their snow crabs, Song-Hwa expresses her interest to become the band’s vocalist, which comically everyone raised their voices loudly and went for cheers to hinder her voice. She argues that she went to Sokcho’s beach and Mount Seorak to practice her vocals.
The group seriously discussed about it, they agreed only to that she could sing on her birthday every other year – a biennial event. Song-Hwa agrees on one condition, they should go karaoke right now. Ik-Jun and Song-Hwa sings and it is obvious that she has not improved after all.
Jeong-Won and Gyeo-Ul meets each other during weekend
Gyeo-Ul eats the snow carbs which Jeong-Won could not eat because of his allergy. While eating, Jeong-Won let Gyeo-Ul promise him one thing, that she will tell him if anything ever happens to her. Gyeo-Ul let him make a promise too, that he will express his affection to her once a day. This made Jeong-Won laugh and kisses Gyeo-Ul passionately despite his allergy.
Seok-Hyeong realizes marriage is not a bad thing
When the patient finally gave birth, the father is asked to come inside to record the baby, as requested. Right after seeing the baby, the father went straight to his wife, held her hand and said “I love you, honey.” It was a tear-jerking moment for both Seok-Hyeong and Min-Ha who witnessed the beautiful moment.
Seok-Hyeong talks with Song-Hwa about his realizations and opens up about his failed marriage. Song-Hwa asks what efforts did Seok-Hyeong did for his ex-wife. The first effort was to send her abroad to keep her away from his mother, the second effort was trying to send her to her parent’s home when his mother found out Seok-Hyeong sponsored her studies abroad and the third effort was feigned ignorance about her criminal offense. He saw Shin-Hye did took the diamond ring but he pretended not to know even if she saw him. Song-Hwa tells him that he did not do any effort at all, he should have asked Shin-Hye and tried to talk her about it.
Seok-Hyeong says he is coward and what to do about it. Song-Hwa gives him a piece of advice “to say more useless things” by starting with the people closest to him. In the right timing, Min-Ha calls Seok-Hyeong asking for a pitch in for a birthday gift. Seok-Hyeong realizes this is a good opportunity to put into the effort on Song-Hwa’s advise, so he starts asking Min-Ha about the gift and how would she go to the mall.
Patient’s Husband Maltreats His Wife
In the evening, the husband of the cancer patient arrives at the hospital drunk. Gyeo-Ul rushes to the patient’s ward right away after seeing him. She waits by the door and after a guardian beside the patient complains that there are “noises” again, she barges in and lifts the curtain. To her discovery, it is true that the husband hits the wife and Gyeo-Ul tries to stop him. But the husband just pushed Gyeo-Ul away and made her fall down really hard. A fellow nurse calls the security guards to stop the drunk husband and seizes him away for good. Jeong-Won arrives and takes care of Gyeo-Ul when he saw her on the floor. He tells him that she should have ask for help if she needs it. He also tells her that was Ik-Jun’s idea for the security guards to be on standby near the area in case this happens.
Ik-Sun arrives in Seoul and sees Jun-Wan
Ik-Sun arrives in Seoul and is fetched by Ik-Jun at the airport. They goes straight to Ik-Sun’s doctor consultation and found out that her condition gotten worse. Ik-Jun says he will come with her to visit their parents at Changwon. While at the car, Ik-Jun forgot to bring the supplement he brought for his mom and went back to his office to get it. Coincidentally, Jun-Wan arrives at the hospital. He notices Ik-Sun sitting in the front passenger seat but is not sure enough so he walks slowly towards her to confirm. But Jae-Hak, his resident doctor, quickly goes out to meet and assists him to attend a patient back inside.
The ending of Hospital Playlist Season 2 Episode 5
The episode ends in the scene back at Yulje Hospital with Jeong-Won giving a pot of flowers to Song-Hwa, Seok-Hyeong bidding his goodbye to her as well and Ik-Jun and Song-Hwa getting breakfast together.
