Could not wait for Hogwarts Legacy video game to be released this coming 2022! I have read all the Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling and has been looking forward to this open-world game play on PC since it has been announced by Avalanche Software!

Game Characters

It has been known that we would not be able to see the main Harry Potter characters because the setting of Hogwarts Legacy video game was set before they entered Hogwarts. But we will be able to create our own character instead.

The Release Date

Hogwarts Legacy will launch sometime in 2022. It was originally planned for this year but announced in January 2021 that it would push back into the following year.

Portkey Games said in his Twitter “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs.”

Gameplay and Setting

According to the description of the game on its official website: “Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart.” Having received a late acceptance letter for Hogwarts, the player discovers that they possess the ability to possess and master Ancient Magic. “Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic,” the description reads.

Hogwarts Legacy will see players creating and customizing their own characters, creating potions, mastering spell casting, upgrading their talents, making allies and battling Dark Wizards to “decide the fate of the wizarding world”. Players can also expect to come across fantastic beasts and visit both new and familiar locations, such as including the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village. A morality system is also rumored to play a role in the game and the official FAQ certainly indicates that players will have to make decisions as they play, stating “players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for.”

My Thoughts

Glad that this game will not be based on the actual Harry Potter books and movie sequel because that would sound very cliche. The Wizarding World has been one of the most popular, fictional magical place that Universal Studios Florida has dedicated a theme for it and now Warner Bros has finally put together a game for us.

Creating our own game character may be like how we create character in The Sims franchise including the option which house we want to be sorted in. Although it would be a lot more interesting to get really “sorted” out, but having the option to choose which House to join in may help players to try out different privilege’s as part of a House (which is yet to be seen once the game is released).

The game takes place in Hogwarts, meaning the playable character is a student attending classes, participating in Quidditch games, doing extra curricular House activities and making friends on top of whatever the original storyline. Having an open-world RPG game provides unlimited game hours for players (like me) who just enjoys playing for non-competitive, adventure and fun. And since the original storyline is about “deciding the fate of the Wizarding World”, we could assume that no romance will be involved in this game.

The game’s plot also gives players the option to make decisions that would affect the final outcome. That in itself gives us at least two different, expected endings – staying on the Good side or joining the Dark side. It may have a similar concept like Persona 5, still crossing my fingers hoping that the plot will not be too cliché.

So there you have Hogwarts Legacy Video Game review! Stay tuned as I will post more game blog posts as soon as the game is released this year!
