Atelier Marie Remake Characters Guide. There’s a total of 11 playable characters, including Marie. That means 10 of them can be recruited, or hired as its called in this game. Unlike most RPGs, party and characters work a bit different.
First step is you need to “unlock” them in order for them to be available to be hired. And given that you’re hiring them, you obviously have to pay them. It’s not a lot what you have to pay them, but the stronger they are the more they charge.
This sounds bad of course, making you think that you need to keep a hefty amount of money on you at all times. That’s not the case. There’s also “Friendship”. This increases as you go out with them on adventures (which is also how they hire you: once you’re back). The higher the friendship the less they charge you, pretty much balancing out how much you pay them. Once you reach Friendship 100 though, they’ll stop charging you, which is really nice.

Marie
Main protagonist.
Schea
Marie’s best friend. She’ll join automatically (talk to her in the Academy during the start of the game).
Ruven
You bump into him in the first visit to the Sky Tavern. You can typically find him in the tavern, in the Weapon Shop, or outside near the fountain.
Hallesch
Simply talk to him whenever you first see him. She’s usually around the fountain. There’s no scene with him like with Ruven.
Kugel
Talk to him. He’s normally at the plaza or inside the Weapon Shop.
Mu
Talk to her. You can usually find her inside the tavern.
Kreis
You need to trigger his first event, Uninvited Guest. Requires to check the bulletin board in the academy AND having at least REP +20.
Schwalbe
Defeat him at the entrance to Meyer Cave (you’ll have to listen to the rumor given by Dio inside the tavern about bandings hiding out in Meyer Cave first), then wait a month or so until you see him walking around.
Kirie
You need to listen to the rumor about a female knight been seen around lately. You’ll also need to wait at least 10 days after hearing the rumors. You’re bound to meet her during an event within 190 days.
Der Himmel
Not her actual name, but this is how you’ll know of her from the start.
You need to listen to the rumors about her, talk to Flair at least 2 times (the pink haired lady in the tavern) and wait around 10 days after that. This triggers an even where Der Himmel steals something we’re guarding from Flair.
Enderk
You need to watch the Two Men 3 event (near the bottom) in order to get the Castle Pass (access to the castle). This allows you to hire him. Note that the first event, Two Men 1, plays automatically on or after 9/1 in Year 2.
